Special Task Force (STF) personnel on Saturday arrested an interstate drug peddler and confiscated 10 kg of opium from his possession. He was held near Paradise Colony in Chheharta. Identified as Gurshinderpal Singh, alias Billa, he is said to have been involved in opium trafficking across the state. He hails from Panagarh Bazaar, Vardhman district, West Bengal.

STF personnel said he used to smuggle opium from West Bengal to different parts of Punjab, including the holy city. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the STF police station in Mohali. Further investigation is under way. The police had received a specific input that Gurshinderpal was in the city. The police had been looking for him for the past couple of days.

Patrolling parties were already present in Chheharta when they got information that a suspicious person was standing near Paradise Colony with a bag. Immediately, cops were rushed to the spot to arrest him. Further investigation is under way.
