The CIA staff of the local police arrested a drug “trafficker”, identified as Bhupinder Singh, alias Chan Mahi (33), of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar near Beri Gate and recovered 255 gm of heroin from him on Thursday.

Vavinder Mahajan, in charge of the CIA staff team, said Bhupinder used to sell heroin in retail to drug addicts in different parts of the city by adulterating it with some chemical. He too is a drug addict.

Terming it a good catch, Mahajan said the accused used to sell contraband in Lahori Gate and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. He has been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

He said the accused was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigation. The police are trying to identify the person from whom he used to procure the contraband. In the past, he was booked in connection with a dacoity case in Batala.
