Mobiles seized from undertrial

Amritsar: The jail staff seized two mobile phones from an undertrial at the Central Jail, Amritsar, here on Monday. The accused has been identified as Jaideep Dhawan, a resident of Pawan Nagar, Batala Road. Joginder Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, said the jail staff found him possessing two mobile phones along with two SIM cards of two separate service providers during a routine check. ASI Salwinder Singh, head of Fatahpur police post, said a case was registered against the accused. OC

Man booked for molestation

Tarn Taran: Gurlal Singh, a shopkeeper of Lalu Ghuman village, 15 km from here, has been booked for allegedly molesting a teenager. Sub-Inspector (SI) Narinder Kaur, investigating officer, said the victim had gone to the shopkeeper at noon to buy something when the accused took her to a nearby house. As soon as the accused started molesting her, she raised the alarm and the accused ran away from the spot. He is absconding. Section 354 of the IPC and 4 of the POCSO Act have been slapped on him. Teenager raped

Tarn Taran: Arshpreet Singh of Nagoke village, 30 km from here, has been booked under in connection with a rape case. The police said that the accused barged into the house of the victim on Monday night and raped her. The victim is a student of Class XI. The accused has been booked under Section 376 of the IPC and 4 of the POCSO Act 2012, the police said. OC

Heroin seized, man held

Tarn Taran: Ranjit Singh Rana of Patti, 25 km from here, has been arrested by a team of the local Narcotics Cell, led by ASI Paramjit Singh for possessing heroin. As much as 320 gm of heroin has been seized. The police said a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Patti City police station. The seized consignment is said to be worth Rs 1.6 crore in the international market, the police said. OC

Depressed man ends life

Tarn Taran: Sohan Singh (25) of Saido village, 35 km from here, said to be disturbed over his strained married life, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Monday. His wife Kanwaljit Kaur and and mother-in-law Gaggu of Naushehra Pannuan have been booked under Section 306 of the IPC by the Patti Sadar police. The case has been registered on the complaint of Balwinder Singh, father of the deceased. He said Sohan was disturbed as he was being harassed over minor issues. OC

Train cancelled

Amritsar: Passengers were a harried lot as the railways cancelled the Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express train (14674) on Tuesday. Railway officials announced that the train would not operate on June 14. Passengers, who had reserved tickets, were incommoded as they had to arrange tickets in alternate trains apart from queuing-up to reimburse the price of ticket. TNS

Illegal constructions

Amritsar: The police booked two persons for illegal construction near an Army ammunition dump at Vallah village here on Monday. The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar of Sabji Mandi, Vallah, and Amrik Singh of Vallah village. Subedar Yogesh Kumar, Land JCO, Army ammunition dump, Vallah, stated in his complaint to the police that the accused were constructing buildings in the prohibited area, They defied orders of the police commissioner. The police have registered a case under Section 188 of the IPC. TNS
