Tribune News Service

Amritsar, May 16

The rural police have arrested a quack for allegedly selling intoxicants. Identified as Harinderpal Singh of Isapur village, 60 intoxicating tablets were seized from his possession following a tip-off.

According to the police, it had received a specific input that the accused, who ran a clinic in Awan village, had been selling intoxicants drug addicts. He said a naka was laid near Awan village where he was intercepted and the contraband was seized.

A case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against him.

It is worth mentioning here that the sale of habit forming drugs has witnessed a rise amid tightening of noose around heroin smugglers.

The Amritsar rural police have been confiscating intoxicating tablets and capsules regularly. If the police authorities are to be believed, quacks and chemist shops opened in the rural belt have been selling intoxicants with impunity.
