Amritsar, January 11

The city police started its 29th National Road Safety week here today. Various programmes were held to spread awareness among residents.

The police organised a traffic awareness rally that commenced from the traffic police office and culminated at Novelty Chowk. Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Amrik Singh Powar and DCP (investigation) Jagmohan Singh flagged off the rally. During the rally, traffic cops could be seen holding banners and placards urging people to follow traffic rules in letter and spirit.

Police officials said that by following these rules road mishaps could be reduced considerably. They also carried out a march against the use of plastic string. The traffic education cell organised a painting competition for students at Spring Dale School. The winners were rewarded by MLA Sunil Datti.

Cops also distributed pamphlets on traffic norms. Banners and hoardings were put up at various chowks. They said people should cooperate in streamlining the traffic by following the rules.
