Jail inmate attacked at district courts

Bathinda, July 12

Around half a dozen inmates attacked another jail inmate, who had come for a court hearing at the district courts from Central Jail. Jail guard and the police saved the jail inmate and took him to the Civil Hospital. After first aid, he was send back to the jail.

Jail inmate Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Virk Kalan village, said he had been booked in a case of assault at Bathinda Sadar’s Balluana police post. He got bail on Thursday and as he came out of the court and reached near ‘bakshikhana’ (place where inmates are kept), around six other inmates attacked him. He doesn’t even know why they attacked him, he said.

Jail guard said Lakhwinder had received an injury on his head. Investigating officer ASI Rajwinder Singh said they had recorded the statement of Lakhwinder and probing the incident, after which further action would be taken. — TNS
