Bathinda, January 13

The Swachhta Survey team today interacted with a cross-section of city residents to know their views on cleanliness. The team arrived in the city yesterday.

During the survey, residents were asked questions like for how many years they have been residing in Bathinda? Do they think that the city is cleaner this year as compared to last year? What did they think of the public toilets constructed in the city and if the toilets were properly maintained and cleaned? How regular was garbage collection in the city?

After getting answers, the answers will be uploaded on e-portal, through which the Central nodal agency will get feedback.

The Municipal Corporation (MC), Bathinda, has heaved a sigh of relief as most of the respondents gave positive feedback on the cleanliness condition in the city. A           majority of the respondents stated that as compared to previous years, the sanitation condition in the city had improved.  About 10 per cent of the 200 respondents gave a few suggestions to make the MCs cleanliness drive more effective.

Residents appreciated the initiative of the MC to clean roads and markets during night. The respondents gave good reviews of the public toilets, which have been constructed at major points in the city.

The civic body is striving hard to secure the first place in the state in the Swachhta Survey 2018. As per the scoring system, public feedback has 1,400 points.

In the second phase of the survey, team member Ranjit Rana started interacting with residents for collecting feedback from the Railway road area. Though restaurant owners praised the MC’s initiative of proving dustbins for shops and daily garbage collection, they complained that the sweepers came to the area only once in three-four days. They demanded that the roads and streets should be cleaned daily to maintain cleanliness.

The team visited Gandhi Market, Vegetable Market, Dhobi Bazaar, Amrik Singh Road, bus stand, Mehna Chowk Court Road, District Administrative Complex road, Model Town and other areas to get feedback.
