Bathinda, January 12

A Central government team today initiated checking in the city for the Swachhta Survey 2018. Team member Gurjit Singh Sandhu reached the MCB office around 12 noon.

XEN Sandeep Gupta, project manager Baljinder Singh Sahni, urban planner Sunil Kumar and project coordinator Gurvinder Mann provided all documents to the team member, who probed the documents regarding the ODF, solid waste treatment plant, sanitation, door-to-door collection of garbage, GPS system, biometric attendance, transport system and others. Later, he sent it to the Union Government through online system.

On the first day of the survey today, only documents were checked while field inspection will be done tomorrow.

MCB officials hope to get full marks in documents survey. Of the total 4,000 points, 1400 are for documents.

Tomorrow, the team will assess the city on various parameters. These include waste collection, sweeping and transportation of solid waste, processing and disposal of municipal solid waste, education and behavioural changes among city residents and capacity building procedures.

Among all parameters, citizen participation will again play the most important role as high marks have been kept for the citizen feedback.

The public feedback team will visit various areas in the city and ask questions from people regarding sanitation. The result of this survey will be declared on March 31.

The MCB is leaving no stone unturned to secure top ranking in the state. It has gone overboard by washing road dividers to make the city appear clean in front of the special team. Even water was sprinkled on the roads to settle dust.

Commuters on the main roads were amused to see that the MCB had sprinkled water on roads today for the common man as earlier sprinkling of waters was done only on VIP routes when any politicians had to come or pass through the road.

MCB officials trolled on social media

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath had posted a photo regarding beautification and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but many people commented about their problems and also uploaded photographs of poor drainage and other issues on the post.
