Bathinda, May 16

A garbage dumping point located at the Rose Garden Shopping Complex has become a nuisance for passersby and shopkeepers on this stretch, as sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation (MC) have not lifted garbage for the last five days.

Shopkeepers alleged that they had intimated the MC authorities concerned repeatedly of the deplorable condition on this stretch, heaps of garbage littered in and around the garbage dumping point and a foul smell, which was not only giving an invitation to vector-borne diseases but also adversely hitting their business.

Dharam Singh, a dhaba owner, said, “For the last two days due to the high velocity winds in the evening heap of garbage accumulated in and around the garbage dumping point scattered all over the place. Besides, the garbage also attracts stray cattle roaming around the city. Many times we have intimated the MC officials regarding the issue, but to no avail.”

Manmeet Singh, another shopkeeper, said, “Recently, seeing the heap of garbage scattered in-front of their shop which is located near the dumping point. I have directed an employee to gather the garbage and thrown into the dumping point. When the employee went near the dumping point to throw the garbage an enraged bull hit him and he got some serious injuries.”

He further stated that they only want the garbage should be lifted regularly so that neither it emanates a foul smell nor it give invitation to stray cattle and vector-borne diseases.

When contacted, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath, said, “I will immediately direct the authorities concerned to lift the garbage from that point.”
