BHEL conferred with India Pride Award 2017-18

BHEL has been conferred with the India Pride Award 2017-18 for excellence in heavy industries in the Maharatna category. The award was received by Atul Sobti, CMD, BHEL, from Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Sh Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Significantly, BHEL has won this award for the eighth time since the award was instituted.

NHPC donates five ambulances to Civil Hospital, Faridabad

Under its corporate social responsibility programme, NHPC Ltd. donated five ambulances to BK Civil Hospital, Faridabad, on April 13. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal flagged off these ambulances. Balraj Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, handed over the keys to Dr Gulshan Arora, Civil Surgeon, Faridabad. From NHPC, Ratish Kumar, Director (Projects), NK Jain, Director (Personnel), and MK Mittal, Director (Finance), were also present on the occasion.

Powergrid bags consultancy contract from Bangladesh

Powergrid has secured project management consultancy contract for construction of 1x500 MW HVDC back-to-back station at Comilla North (Bangladesh) to transfer power through Surjamaninagar (India) - Comilla North (Bangladesh) with estimated project cost of Rs 1,064 crore and consultancy fee of Rs 21 crore from Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB). Apart from above, Powergrid is already providing consultancy for construction of second block of 1x500 MW HVDC back-to-back station at existing Bheramara Station (Bangladesh).

HUDCO women team wins IHC table tennis tourney

Dr M. Ravi Kanth, Chairman and Managing Director, HUDCO, has congratulated the winning HUDCO women's table tennis teams that secured the first and third position in the women's doubles event. Poonam B. Rajpal and  Vindhyavasini Pandey won the first prize and Poonam Sharma and R. Rajamma were declared second runners-up. The mixed doubles team was declared the runners-up and Vindhyavasini Pandey was declared the second runners-up in the women's singles category. Several institutions from India Habitat Centre participated in the annual tournament.

MMTC-PAMP JV inaugurates retail outlet in Ludhiana

MMTC-PAMP India Pvt. Ltd, India's first and only internationally accredited gold and silver refinery, has opened its retail outlet in Ludhiana - 12th in the country. Anand Sikri, president, Ludhiana Jewellers Association, inaugurated the outlet at an event attended by reputed bullion dealers, jewellers, customers and company officials. The company operates the world's most advanced precious metals processing facility at Mewat (Haryana), as a joint venture between MMTC Ltd and PAMP, Switzerland.

NMDC celebrates 127th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar

NMDC celebrated the 127th birth anniversary Dr BR Ambedkar on April 14 at its head office. N Baijendra Kumar, CMD, NMDC, was the chief guest while Dr NK Nanda, Director (Technical), DS Ahluwalia, Director (Finance) and Sandeep Tula, Director (Personnel) were the guests of honour on the occasion. B Hanumantha Rao, president, B Jagadeeshwar, working president and G Shiva Kumar, secretary of the NMDC SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, along with executive members, were also present.

Virat Kohli to endorse Luminous ‘Amaze’ 

Luminous Power Technologies has launched its new brand “Amaze” to tap the unorganised market of batteries in the country. Nearly 40% of the battery market in the country, comprising local manufacturers, is unorganised. The company has also signed Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the brand ambassador for Amaze.

Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh released BBMB's book "Uttari Bharat ki Jeevandhara" on April 11 in New Delhi. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of Power and DK Sharma, Chairman, BBMB, were also present On this occasion. Gopal Krishan Pharlia, Member of Hindi Salahkar Samiti of Ministry of Power, and former Member, Hydro, Central Electricity Authority, lauded the role of BBMB in the implementation of official language in BBMB.

Huge potential to link small towns by air, says FAST

The Foundation for Aviation & Sustainable Tourism (FAST) in collaboration with Ministries of Civil Aviation and Tourism organised a seminar on "Incredible India: Connectivity - Driving Tourism for Inclusive Growth" in New Delhi on April 12. FAST president Lt Gen KM Seth (retd) said tourism and aviation apart from being natural allies are intertwined and mutually support each other. He said with India emerging as the world's fastest growing aviation economy, the huge potential of connecting small, medium towns and remote areas by air was yet to be exploited. The seminar was attended by around 150 delegates from tourism and aviation industry. 

Annual tech fest ‘adavitya18’ organised at DAVIET campus

Annual tech fest - adavitya18 - was held on the DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology campus, Jalandhar, recently with much fanfare. The fest aims at providing a platform for the budding technocrats to showcase their talent. As many as 140 events were organised during the fest. The theme of the fest stresses on the vital issues such as to sow technology that could change the course of mankind; to strengthen our society and to ensure sustainability by means of technology. Dr Kanchan L. Singh, convener, welcomed the guests and other participants to the fest. 

DAV College wins trophy in inter-college competition 

The commerce forum of DAV College, Jalandhar, organised an inter-college competition ‘FESToCOMM’ in which DAV College won the overall trophy. Over 200 students from 20 colleges participated in the event. Jalandhar Mayor Jagdeesh Raja and Punjabi singer Pammi Bai were the chief guests on the occasion.  Principal Dr SK Arora, vice-principal and HoD Prof VK Sareen and president of Commerce Forum, Prof Ekjot Kaur welcomed the chief guests. Various events were organised during the fest.
