Honour for PGGCG-42 teacher

Chandigarh: Dr Ranjay Vardhan, Associate Professor in Sociology at Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 42, Chandigarh, has been given a rare honour as his paper entitled “Elder abuse and elder victimisation: A sociological analysis” has been published in International Annals of Criminology published by Cambridge University Press. The paper focuses on the condition of elders in Chandigarh and found that two-fifth of the respondents reported suffering abuse, and of the abused, a majority was elderly women. The main reason for abuse were economic dependency (40 per cent), emotional dependency (25 per cent), physical immobility (15 per cent), property (10 per cent) and remaining reported due to conflicts on watching television or going to religious places.
