Man booked for fraud

Mohali, February 12

The Mohali police booked a local resident in case of Rs 1.35 crore property fraud. The accused has been identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of Industrial Area, Phase I, here.

According to the police, Manjit Singh had sold an industrial plot at the Industrial Area, Phase I to complainant Netar Singh and his acquaintances, claiming that he had the power of attorney of the property.

“In his complaint, Netar Singh alleged that he, along with Harbhajan Singh from Faridkot and Rajveer Singh from Muktsar, had purchased the plot from Manjit Singh for Rs 1.35 crore, for which they had given him (Manjit) Rs 20 lakh in advance in 2009,” said the police, adding that the plot belonged to Jai Singh but Manjit Singh had claimed that he had the power of attorney of the property.

An agreement in this regard was also prepared, said the police.

“The fraud came to light when the victims went to get the plot register in their name and got to know that Manjit Singh had no power of attorney of the plot,” said the police, adding that a case was already pending in a court regarding the property. — TNS
