10 SAD workers booked for assault on sarpanch

Tarn Taran, June 10

The Chohla Sahib police booked 10 activists of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on the charge of attacking Rajwinder Singh, sarpanch of Ruriwala village, 30 km from here on Sunday. The incident occurred on Friday while the case was registered yesterday.

The police said the accused had been identified as Tejinder Singh, his brother Sarabjit Singh, two sons Gurbhej Singh and Harpreet Singh, besides Bikramjit Singh, Inderpal Singh, Goldi, Ranjodh Singh, Shamsher Singh of the same Ruriwala village and Rimpa of Dhun Dhai Wala village. Rajwinder Singh in his complaint to the police said the accused were jealous as he was elected village sarpanch unopposed. The accused attacked him at his residence. The police have registered a case under Sections 323, 324, 506, 120-B, 148 and 149 of the IPC. — OC
