Amritsar, June 10

Despite the severe heat wave gripping the city, there has been no impact on the flow of tourists and pilgrims to the Golden Temple.

Satnam Singh Kanda, who is operating a hotel close to the Golden Temple, said the number of tourists was even more than during the last summer vacation.

Majority of the tourists, he reasoned, were part of the Jammu and Kashmir tourist circuit. “They are coming from all parts of the country due to summer vacation in schools. After enjoying mountain tourism, they prefer to conclude their journey here,” he said.

With the city temperature hovering around 42 degrees Celsius for the past some days, most of the main roads are deserted in the afternoon, and the normal hustle and bustle returns in the evening.

A tourist, Inderpreet Singh of Jabalpur, said he planned the itinerary for his family in such a way that after visiting the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh, they came to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple.

Meanwhile, the sale of electronic gadgets offering reprieve from the searing heat has jacked up. A shopkeeper, Madan Sharma, said the sale of ACs and coolers has sharply increased.
