Bathinda, June 8

To get an FIR lodged against two persons in the Manjit Singh suicde case, a delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta) Ugrahan met SSP Dr Nanak Singh here on Saturday.

The delegation was headed by union’s senior state vice-president Jhanda Singh Jethuke and district president Shingara Singh Mann. The BKU also presented some evidence before the SSP regarding the incident.

Thereafter, the SSP asked them to approach the Cantonment police station for the registration of a case. But, members of the delegation said the SHO of the police station did not register the FIR.

Irked over it, farmers raised slogans against police personnel outside the Cantonment police station. They also announced that they would stage an indefinite protest outside the police station from June 9.

Manjit Singh (45) from Bucho Khurd, who was the BKU (Ekta) Ugrahan’s Nathana block president, consumed pesticides on January 26.  He breathed his last at a private hospital here on February 9. Manjit had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 7 lakh from a commission agent, due to which he was under stress.
