Tax Inspector caught while taking bribe

A team of Vigilance Bureau sleuths from Faridkot caught an Inspector of the Sales and Taxation Department red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs25,000 on Thursday.

A trap was laid by Vigilance Bureau team, which was led by DSP VB Ashwini Kumar and SSP Akhil Chaudhary.

SSP Chaudhary said, “Jaspal Handa, Inspector of the Sales and taxation Department, was posted at Kotakpura. On a complaint of Ankur Garg, aka Vicky, who owns a trading company in Kotakpura, we laid a trap to arrest the accused red-handed.”

“Jaspal had visited the complainant’s firm on numerous occasions. After checking record, the inspector claimed to have found irregularities in billing of products to evade taxes. He threatened to impose heavy penalties on the firm owner. When the complainant requested the Inspector not to impose the fine, the latter agreed to settle the matter by accepting a bribe of Rs25,000,” the SSP added,

The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the Inspector.
