48 caught drinking at public places

Chandigarh, June 9

During a special drive against drinking in public places, the UT police on Saturday arrested 48 persons who were found drinking in the open. 

Police officials said during the drive, the staff of all police stations was asked to patrol the parking lots and market places on foot. 

The police said while six cases were registered at the Sector 17 police station, five each were reported at the police stations of Sector 26, Mauli Jagran and Industrial Area. Three cases each were registered at Sarangpur, Sector 39, IT Park, Sector 31, Sector 36 and the Sector 34. Two cases each were registered at Sector 11, Sector 19 and Maloya, and one case each at Sector 49 and Mani Majra. 

All accused were booked under Section 68-1(B) of the Punjab Police Act 2007 and 510 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They were arrested and later released on bail.  TNS
