Members of various cultural organisations from the city have expressed grief over the sudden demise of Indian actor, film director, Kannada writer Girish Karnad.

Eminent authors and office-bearers of the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi — Madhav Kaushik, Jaspal Singh and Gulzar Singh Sandhu — remembered Karnad for his contribution to literature, theatre and cinema. They said his death has created a void, which would be impossible to fill.

Dr Mahendra, former Chairperson of the Department of Indian Theatre, said Karnad was a master craftsman with philosophical thoughts. Kamal Arora, Chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Atul Sharma and Balkar Sidhu paid tributes to Karnad.
