A meeting of the advisory committee for centralised admission to BEd — offered in 215 colleges — was convened on Monday.

The committee resolved that the entrance test for the course will be held on July 21.The committee has also resolved to increase the honorarium of all functionaries for the exam by 10 per cent.

It was decided that the admission to BEd will be through a common entrance test and the forms will be invited online, while a website for BEd admissions will be launched on July 17.

Of 215 BEd colleges, 62 are under the PU, Chandigarh, 102 are under Punjabi University, Patiala, and 51 are under Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. There are a total of 21,131 seats for BEd, excluding the management quota.

“The Controller of Examinations, DCDC, and the co-ordinator of BEd admissions will decide the process of admission,” said a source.

Reportedly, in 2018, after all three counselling sessions, over 5,000 seats were still vacant at BEd colleges in Punjab. In 2017, Panjab University had to conduct two entrance tests as thousands of seats were left vacant.
