In a bid to make Zirakpur town more secure, the police are likely to make it mandatory for all residents and shopkeepers to install quality closed-circuit cameras outside residential buildings and commercial spaces.

Gurbakshish Singh, DSP, Dera Bassi, who recently took charge, said that if everything goes according to plan, CCTV cameras will be installed first at all vulnerable locations in Zirakpur and surrounding areas once a survey of the site is completed and technical specifications are worked out.

While spelling out his priority, the DSP stressed the role of community policing in checking crimes, that have seen a spurt in Zirakpur town in the recent past.

The DSP stated that he was also planning to hold meetings with representatives of RWAs of various housing societies in Zirakpur, encouraging them to install “high-end” cameras that have night vision and better resolution, both at the entry and exit points.

He added that all the police stations have been asked to analyse the crime trends in their respective jurisdiction.

The DSP said the PCR wing has already been advised to be more proactive and supplement the local police, adding that the police had been told to increase patrolling in secluded areas and localities during night hours.
