Residents of Dasmesh Nagar Colony in Dera Bassi are being forced to drink contaminated water due to the alleged callousness of the local government.

Situated on the Barwala Road, the colony has been devoid of basic amenities such as sewerage, drinking water and drains.

According to sources, the residents get water from hand pumps or from submersible pumps, which is allegedly contaminated and not fit for consumption, resulting in stomach problems.

Anuj Kumar, a resident of the colony, alleged that the factories set up in the area were dumping waste into the ground, thus polluting the groundwater.

The residents claimed that they had deposited all development charges and property tax, but were not getting any facilities. They said they had apprised the senior officials of their problems, but no action had been taken so far. An MC official said according to the policy, at least 70 per cent houses should be occupied, only then they could provide all facilities.
