Chandigarh, June 8

The police have arrested a 29-year-old drug addict in a snatching case.

The police said Nishant, a resident of Phase 1, Mohali, was arrested on Friday in a case of snatching registered at the Sector 39 police station here on May 29.

The case was registered on the complaint of Jai Mita, a resident of Sector 41-B, here. While she was going to her house, a motorcycle-borne youth snatched her purse containing a mobile phone, debit cards and cash from near the mandi in Sector 40.

Following the complaint, a special team under the supervision of Inspector Maninder Singh, SHO, Sector 39 police station, was constituted which nabbed Nishant and recovered the snatched mobile phone worth Rs 70,000 from him.

He was produced before a court, which sent him to two-day police remand.

The police said the suspect was a Class XII pass-out and he was assisting his father at his confectionery shop.
