Chandigarh Smart City Company Limited (CSCL) has set a one-month deadline to submit detailed project report (DPR) for the 24x7 water supply project of the city before Egis International Company.

Egis International has been awarded the project of assisting Chandigarh Smart City Limited to design, develop, manage and implement Smart City projects.

The CSCL has given the task to Egis International to prepare the DPR for one of the most ambitious projects of the city. The French Government has already agreed to fund 24x7 water supply project of the city for worth over Rs 500 crore.

A French delegation, headed by Alexander Ziegler, Ambassador of France, had recently requested senior officers of the Administration to submit the report as early as possible. After the meeting, Manoj Parida, Adviser to the UT Administrator, directed the CSCL to prepare the DPR soon.

Funds for the project will be provided by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a French Government entity, which has been engaged to develop Chandigarh as a Smart City by France.

Source said Egis International has almost finalised the project and started social and environmental impact study. The study will be conducted all over the city ward-wise. Under the programme, views of residents of Sector 37 and 38 were sought today.

Area councillor Arun Sood said residents raised concerns and suggestions regarding the project.

Sources in the MC said under the 24X7 project, the city would be divided into seven zones for the implementation of the project. The plan includes replacement of old pipeline and construction of new underground reservoirs.

Leakage of water will be stopped. The water supply system of the city is more than 40 years old and needs to be strengthened. The project will be implemented in phases and is likely to be completed in the next five years.

The plan will cover installation of smart meters and SCADA system of tertiary treated water supply.
