Man injured by neighbour over beating of stray dog

Mohali, June 9

A 48-year-old man was seriously injured when a verbal duel between two neighbour families in Phase-7 over hitting a stray dog turned serious where they hit each other with sticks. The victim, identified as Raj Kumar Raina, was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh.

Those who attacked him have been identified as two brothers Sardeep Singh, Gurjeet Singh and their mother Harbhajan Kaur.

According to victim’s cousin Vijay Raina, the incident took place on June 7, a day after both families got involved into a verbal spat over parking a scooter. He said, “They usually lay down a cot or park their scooter in the lane which restricts the path of the passers-by. On June 6, my brother asked them to park their scooter inside their house as we were expecting some guests at our place, but they refused to do so.”

On June 7, my brother heard the howling of a stray dog. He saw that they were beating the dog with a stick. When he asked them to stop beating it, they attacked my brother. They later fled from the spot.

Jagdev Singh, Station House Officer of Mataur Police Station, said, “We will take action according to law.”  A case has been registered under Sections 323 and 324 of the IPC against the accused. However, victim’s brother wants the Sections 307, 452, 326 to be added to the FIR. — TNS
