Man waiting for bus dies in hit-and-run

In a case of hit-and-run, a 50-year-old man died after a car knocked him down while he was waiting for a bus near the Singhpura bus stop here on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Karam Chand, a resident of Bhankarpur village near Dera Bassi.

In his complaint to the police, Ravi Deep Kumar, the victim’s son, had alleged that he and his father had come to Zirakpur for some personal work. The complainant stated that they were waiting for a bus near the Singhpura bus stop when a rashly driven car bearing a registration number of Haryana came from the Singhpura side and hit his father. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors referred him to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The complainant told the police that doctors at the GMCH declared his father brought dead. Acting on the complaint of the victim’s son, the police have registered a case against the unidentified car driver at the Zirakpur police station.

The police said that the victim used to work in a private factory. Further probe in the case is on.
