Patiala, June 10

Taking action against unscrupulous construction of buildings under its ambit, the Patiala Municipal Corporation (MC) today sealed seven buildings in areas, including Sukhram Colony near factory area, Aman Nagar near Alipur Araian village, Udham Singh Nagar and Mehar Singh Colony near Banna road.

Navneet Singla, a building inspector in MC, said the owners had constructed commercial buildings on plots passed as residential properties in Sukhram Colony and Aman Nagar.

Similar constructions were initiated in areas of Tripuri, including Mehar Singh Colony near Banna road where showrooms and shops had been constructed by the owners of residential plots. They said a shop that had been raised in Mehar Singh Colony without a sanctioned construction plan had also been sealed.

Officials said the owners of the plots needed to get proper building construction plan passed from the MC before initiating construction. Construction at the site has to be done according to the plan sanctioned, else a notice could be sent and building could be sealed. The officials said the owners would have to shell out penalty on a daily basis if their buildings were sealed for flouting norms.
