Powercom worker dies due to electrocution

Kharar, June 13

Inderjit Singh, a 35-year-old contractual worker of Powercom, was electrocuted while he was repairing a fault in a power line near Bansa Wali Chungi yesterday night.

His colleagues and family members blocked vehicular traffic for about half an hour in support of their demands.

Balihar Singh, state president of Powercom and Transco Theka Mlajam Union, told the media that some officers were responsible for his death as he

was forced to work on 11,000-volt power line.

Balihar Singh said a case under Section 302 of the IPC should be registered against the erring officers. He demanded sufficient compensation for the victim’s family and a job for his widow. He alleged that even the police misbehaved with them. They held a protest at the SDM office.

It was on Kharar SDM Vinod Kumar Bansal’s assurance, the protesters lifted the dharma. Till the filling of this report, negotiation was still going on between the union leaders and officers.

Meanwhile, the victim’s body was lying at the Civil Hospital, Kharar, as the family refused to accept it till their demands were met. — OC
