Roadways employees seek reinstatement

Tribune News Service

Panchkula, June 11

Hundreds of dismissed drivers and conductors of the Haryana Roadways held a protest at the Housing Board chowk, causing inconvenience to the commuters here today.

The protestors demanded government to reinstate them. Sources said the state government had recruited around 3,600 drivers and conductors in view of the strike by the roadways employees in October last year. However, after the strike ended, the government had fired them. Earlier, the dismissed drivers and conductors had organised a rally at the Sector 5 protest ground. In the evening, they tried to move towards the Haryana CM’s residence in Chandigarh. However, they were stopped by the Chandigarh Police.

The protestors sat at the Housing Board chowk and raised slogans against the state government for almost two hours.

Meanwhile, the administrative officials assured them to organise a meeting with the CM on June 13. After which, the protestors lifted the dharna from the chowk and returned to Sector 5.
