Two fraudsters held in Sec 26

Used to cheat people outside banks by exchanging money

Chandigarh, June 10

The UT police have arrested 2 fraudsters, who used to cheat gullible people outside banks by exchanging their money with bundle of papers after befooling them.

The suspects have been identified as Ravi Kumar (30) and Mukesh Shahni (32) both native of Bihar. The police nabbed them from Sector 26 here today.

The police said the duo had cheated Salaudin, a resident of Sector 26, on March 12, this year. The victim had gone to a bank in Sector 26 to deposit Rs 13,000. The suspects allured the complainant by claiming they are having Rs 1.50 lakh cash wrapped in a handkerchief. The suspects befooled the victim and gave him the bundle of paper wrapped in a cloth. The victim later found that he has been duped. A case regarding the same was registered at the Sector 26 police station.

During investigation, several persons released from jail were interrogated who were involved in similar crimes. Their questioning revealed that a gang of persons from Bihar was involved in the crime.

The UT police contacted the Bihar police and gathered more details following which they managed to nab both fraudsters.

During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they had cheated people at Rajpura, Phagwara and Patiala. They will be produced before a court on Tuesday. — TNS
