Panipat, October 20

Harshita Dahiya, a Haryanvi singer and dancer, was murdered on the direction of her brother-in-law and notorious gangster Dinesh Karala by his four accomplices, the police said on Friday.

Panipat SP Rahul Sharma said while interacting with mediapersons here today, “Dinesh Karala revealed the murder conspiracy during police interrogation after he was brought from the Jhajjar jail on production warrant on Thursday”. Dinesh along with his accomplices had hatched the plot in the jail to murder Harshita, he added.

The police arrested Dinesh for Harshita’s murder and produced him in court that remanded him in four-day police custody yesterday, he added.

Sharma said Harshita’s sister Lata had alleged that she was married to Dinesh, a resident of Karala village in Delhi, in 2012. But after some time she returned to her parental house at Narela. Lata alleged that her husband had raped Harshita in 2014 and a case was registered against him at Kanjhavala police station in Delhi on a complaint by her mother Premo Devi, he added.

Premo Devi was shot dead on December 17, 2014, at her house in Narela and a case was registered against Dinesh in Narela on Harshita’s statement, the SP said.

Lata had alleged that Harshita was the prime witness in both cases. Dinesh had been pressuring Harishita not to make a statement before court, he added.

Sharma said Dinesh admitted to his involvement in Harshita’s murder and revealed the names of his four accomplices who murdered her. CIA teams were raiding various places to nab them, he added.

“Dinesh is a notorious gangster. Twelve criminal cases are registered against him in various police stations of Sonepat, Jind, Jhajjar and Delhi,” the SP said.

Harshita was shot dead on the Chamrara-Kakoda road in the Israna block of the district on Tuesday evening while she was on her way back home in a car after a programme at Chamrara village.
