Admn cancels Karnal MC’s draw for women’s wards

Karnal, September 14

In the absence of a quorum of the adhoc committee constituted for delimitation and draw for the elections of the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC), the district administration had to cancel the draw which was to be conducted on Friday evening. The next date of the draw will be announced soon.

Scores of aspirants reached Vikas Sadan to know that which ward will be reserved for women out of the total of 20 wards. As many as seven wards comprising two SC and five open category would be reserved for women in the upcoming elections of the KMC.

Although Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nishant Kumar Yadav reached there, most non-official members in the adhoc committee did not come, forcing the administration to cancel the draw.

“Due to the lack of a quorum, we cancelled the draw process. The next date will be announced soon,” said the ADC.

He, however, refused to comment when asked whether the administration was working under pressure. He said fair work was being done and all members had been informed about the meeting as per the procedure.

Meanwhile, aspirants and opposition leaders termed it as a conspiracy and alleged that the administration was working at the behest of the state government.

Former Deputy Mayor Manoj Wadhwa alleged that most of the adhoc committee members were from the ruling BJP and he suspected that the draw was cancelled at the behest of the party.
