Minor at orphanage reunited with family

Panipat, March 20

With the efforts of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Panipat, an inmate living at the orphanage in Sondhapur on the Jatal road in the district was reunited with her parents today.

Mohit Aggarwal, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, said he had visited the orphanage at Sondhapur village to see the living conditions of the inmates.

“When I was interacting with the inmates, 10-year-old Roma told me that she belonged to Ludhiana and had run away from home due to ‘atrocities’ of her parents,” he said.

“She told me that she had boarded a train from Ludhiana in December and was rescued by the GRP at the Panipat railway station,” he added.

“She disclosed that her stepfather Santosh worked as helper at a ‘karyana’ store in Ludhiana and she used to study in a school in the same locality,” he further said.

The office of the District Education Officer, Ludhiana, was contacted to ascertain the location of the school. The parents of Roma were traced on Friday within 24 hours, he asserted.

The police station concerned was directed to produce the mother and stepfather of the girl in the office of the DLSA, he said.

They were produced in the office today, he said. The minor recognised both of them along with her brother, he added.

The Child Welfare Committee, Panipat, passed an order for producing the child before the Child Welfare Committee, Ludhiana, for formal handover to her parents, he further said.
