Chandigarh, December 6

Congress’ Palwal MLA Karan Dalal on Thursday demanded an inquiry either by the CBI or judicial probe into large-scale alleged irregularities in the Power Department.

In a representation to the Governor, Dalal alleged that various decisions of the Power Department, which was headed by the Chief Minister, had caused huge loss to the state exchequer in the past over four years.

The 62-page representation, along with 355 pages of annexure, alleged irregularities in the purchase of materials, allotment of major projects at inflated rates to favourite firms, allotment of project on single-tender basis in violation of the norms and relaxing norms through frequent corrigenda in newspapers to favour certain selected companies.

He claimed that even the Comptroller and Auditor General had pointed out irregularities in the functioning of the department.
