Cop held for ‘conniving’ with robbery accused

The police have arrested three persons, including an exemptee head constable (EHC) with the Kaithal police, on the charge of conniving with convict Rajesh Kumar along with two other police personnel.

The police arrested Rajesh, serving his term in Kaithal jail who was undergoing treatment for heart ailment at the PGI in Chandigarh.

Newly installed CCTV cameras in Karnal reportedly exposed this nexus. As per the police, Rajesh, in connivance with the police, robbed a woman after coming out of the PGI while under treatment.

The other two arrested were identified as EHC Ravi Shankar and Gagan of Mansa in Punjab. Gagan drove the car which was used for the crime in Karnal on May 29.

Two other police personnel, EHC Ishwar and head constable Ajit, were still absconding, said Surinder Singh Bhoria, SP.

Rajesh hired a car on May 29 and looted a woman of her jewellery at Azad Nagar on the Hansi road in Karnal, said Mohan Lal, SHO, City.

The police checked footage of all CCTV cameras in the city and located the number of the car used for the crime, the SHO said.
