Cop killed in Panipat mishap

Panipat, March 20

A Haryana Police inspector was killed in a road mishap on the elevated highway here late on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Inspector Vijay Malik, son of former transport minister Ved Singh Malik and a resident of Sector 15 in Sonepat. He was posted at the Police Lines in Kanina of Mahendragarh district.

The incident took place at around 2 am.

DSP Jagdeep Duhan said Inspector Vijay Malik was on his way to Panchkula for a one-week course after attending a family function in Sonepat. “A truck collided with his car near the grain market in the city. Due to the impact of the collision, the car veered towards the opposite lane and overturned,” he said.

The DSP said Vijay Malik got badly injured in the mishap and was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment.

A case has been registered at the Chandni Bagh police station. The body was handed over to kin of the deceased after post-mortem examination. — TNS
