The family of Dr Omkar (30), a PGIMS student (paediatrics) who reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Thursday night, is not satisfied with the police investigation into the case.

They have demanded immediate arrest of Dr Geeta Gathwala, the head of the PGIMS’s paediatrics department booked for abetment to suicide. She was suspended the day Dr Omkar, a native of Karnataka, ended his life.

“The police have not arrested Dr Gathwala even after four days of registering the case against her. We cannot visit Rohtak again and again from Karnataka to mount pressure on the police for speedy action,” Mahantesh, younger brother of Dr Omkar, told The Tribune over phone.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Chand, who heads the SITprobing the case, said: “The police are collecting evidence and the process is underway to press charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as Dr Omkar belonged to the SC category.”
