Sex-determination test racket busted

Ambala, January 12

A team of health officials has busted a sex-determination test racket in Dehradun and nabbed four persons.

Civil Surgeon Dr Vinod Gupta said, “On a tip-off about sex-determination tests being facilitated by a few touts in Naraingarh, a team of doctors was constituted. The Health Department arranged a decoy pregnant woman to trap the touts. One of them was contacted and a deal was struck.”

On Thursday, tout Karampal of Naraingarh asked the decoy to wait for him at Naraingarh bus stand at 8 am. She was carrying Rs 22,000 for the sex-determination test. The tout took her to Kala Amb (HP), where another tout Harish Sharma joined them. The three of them then left for Dehradun.

“The team informed the CMO, Dehradun, about the movement of the touts. So, the CMO sent his team to join the Ambala team,” Dr Gupta said.

In the meantime, the touts got the ultrasound of the decoy done at a private centre. After getting the signal, the centre was raided.

The teams nabbed Dr Pramod Tyagi, helper Rajender Singh and two touts from the centre. They seized Rs 16,000 from Rajender and Rs 6,000 from Karampal. — TNS
