The mayoral candidates of the BJP, CPM and INLD-BSP alliance filed their nominations papers here on Wednesday.

The BJP nominee, Manmohan Goyal, was accompanied by Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar, Minister of State for Cooperatives Manish Grover and local Zila Parishad chairman Balraj Kundu.

Goyal and his supporters also took out a road show and held a public meeting. Dhankar and Grover claimed that BJP candidates would win the mayoral seats of all five municipal corporations.

CPM Politburo member Brinda Karat visited Rohtak and accompanied the party’s mayoral nominee, Dr Jagmati Sangwan, for the filing of her nomination papers.

Addressing a press conference after filing the papers, Sangwan maintained that ensuring the provision of basic amenities and participation of residents’ welfare associations in the framing of policies and deciding priorities would be on her to-do list on being elected.

INLD-BSP candidate Sanchit Nandal also filed his nomination papers today. INLD state president Ashok Arora, party leader Arjun Chautala and INLD youth wing’s state president Jassi Petwad were present.

In a media interaction organised on the occasion, Arora equated the BJP government in the state to a train without an engine. He claimed that the INLD-BSP alliance would form the next government in the state.
