Truck carrying rice looted at gunpoint

Kaithal, December 6

Armed car-borne robbers looted a truck carrying a consignment of broken rice costing about Rs 5 lakh on the Hisar- Chandigarh highway near Keorak village of the district around 11:30 on Wednesday night. The robbers also looted Rs 15,000 cash and mobile phones from the driver and cleaner. They took them both in their car at gunpoint and left them at a deserted place. The police learnt about the loot when the truck driver informed the Keorak police post staff on Thursday morning.

Driver Kuldip Singh of Sanehri in Jind said he had loaded broken rice from Tohana for Badouli last night. When they reached near Keorak, a car intercepted them. Five to six armed men, with their faces covered, came out of the car and took him and the cleaner, Vikram, hostage. Their hands were tied and they were bundled into the car. The other group members took over the truck and drove behind the car.

Kuldeep alleged that after travelling some distance, they were left near Seonsar forest while the miscreants fled. Somehow, they managed to reach Keorak in the morning and informed the Tohana rice trader Narinder Garg and the police.

ASI Ramesh Kumar said they had received a complaint and had started investigation.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mittal, Project Director of ‘Ek Aur Sudhar’ cell, reached the Sadar police station on getting the information. He asked the SHO to solve the case and arrest the accused at the earliest.
