151 students get scholarship

Governor Acharya Devvrat today gave SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Awards to 151 meritorious students of the state.

Speaking at the award function organised by the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Foundation and HIMCON, he said youths formed 65 per cent of the country’s population and that they had immense potential. He exhorted them to launch social campaigns.

Devvrat gave certificates and a cheque for Rs 24,000 each to those students who qualified for the scholarship.

They will get the amount every year till they complete their degree or diploma course. Congratulating the students, the Governor said they should respect their parents and teachers. He asked them to stay away from drugs. Chairman, Committee of Directors on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ganesh Dutt said as per the direction of the Governor, the CSR had started a campaign against drug abuse and cow protection.

Chairman and managing director Nandlal Sharma said 1,137 students had benefitted from the scheme. This year, 250 students were included in the scheme, he added.
