Shift rally from Ridge: Deputy Mayor to PM

Tribune News Service

Shimla, April 20

Shimla Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to shift the venue of the proposed April 27 rally to be addressed by the Prime Minister from The Ridge to other place in view of the fact that the British built city’s main storage tank beneath it is showing the signs of some cracks. It is a 107-year-old masonry structure.

In a letter addressed to Modi here, Panwar said The Ridge ground speaks about the basic hydrology of the Himalayas as its north face catchment flows into the Sutlej basin and its south face drains into the Ganga.

“It is because of the reason that The Ridge has a large drinking water storage, built in 1910 from stone masonry without any reinforcement”, he added. “I would like to apprise you that during the recent cleaning of this tank, we have witnessed cracks developing at one end of the tank which is towards the Lakkar Bazar area”, Panwar said.
