Custodial death: No relief for Zaidi, others

Arrested for the custodial death of one of the accused in the rape and murder of Kotkhai girl, court today extended the judicial custody of nine police personnel, including Inspector General of Police Zhaur H Zaidi and Superintendent of Police DW Negi, till February 23.

All the nine police personnel, who have been arrested in connection with the custodial death of Suraj, an accused in the rape and murder of 15 year old Kotkhai girl, were produced in court today. All nine will now be produced in court again on February 23.

IG Zaidi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manoj Joshi and six other police personnel were arrested on August 29 last year in connection with the custodial death of Suraj, a Nepalese who was one of the six arrested on suspicion of being involved in the crime. The death took place in the Kotkhai police station and the CBI has already submitted the charge-sheet in court against all the SIT members.

However, the voice sample case could not be taken up once again today as no lawyer appeared for the accused. The voice sample case will also be heard on February 23, when the police personnel will be produced in court.
