The personal physician of the Dalai Lama, Dr Tseten Dorjee, has trashed reports that the Tibetan spiritual icon was suffering from prostate cancer in last stage was terminally ill.

“How could a person suffering from prostate cancer sit and give discourses for three to four hours continuously for three days,” said Dr Tseten negating the reports regarding illness of the Dalai Lama as false and baseless.

The Dalai Lama’s health has been a cause of concern for his followers and well-wishers, particularly over apprehensions that China might install its own reincarnate Dalai Lama, after his demise of present 14th Dalai Lama.

The personal physician of the Dalai Lama claimed that he needed support while walking because of mild osteo-arthritis, which was common to people his age.

In fact, the condition of his arthritis was so mild that it did not even require surgery, he said.

When politicians and world leaders fall ill, they occasionally make public appearances to prove otherwise, but in this case, his holiness has been holding back-to-back public meetings and discourses and was even going to Ladakh next month, the personal physician of the Dalai Lama said.

He said that the Dalai Lama is in excellent health.

The Dalai Lama had himself has repeatedly told the Tibetans that he is in excellent health despite his age and not to worry said Sonam Dagpo, Secretary, International Relations, and spokesperson for the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala.

Chime Rigzin, a secretary, had claimed that doctors in Rochester, Minnesota, had found nothing left of a small sign of cancer in his prostate gland.

They had identified and treated two years ago. This time, during the examination at the Mayo Clinic, they saw no trace of it. It is completely cured, he had claimed.

The Dalai Lama had a hectic schedule till February 2019. After his return from Vilnius, Lithuania, and Riga, the Dalai Lama would returns to Dharamsala and conduct four days of teachings from September 4-7 at the request of a group from Asia, including Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam at the Main Tibetan Temple.

He will then travel to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from September 16-17, for talks and lectures, and then attend a conference on non-violence in Darmstadt, Germany, before participating in a religious ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Tibet Institute in Rikon and Winterthur, Switzerland.

In October, he will continue teaching and lectures in Dharamsala, and attend an event at Manali in Himachal Pradesh.

“Can a terminally ill-person conduct such a busy schedule,” said an official of the Dalai Lama’s office, while speaking on the condition of anonymity.
