Nurpur, June 13

Several posts at the field offices of the Agriculture Department are lying vacant for a long time, due to which farmers in Nagrota Surian development block are facing problem in procuring kharif crop seeds. No employee is available to run the agriculture seed sale centre-cum-farmers’ information centre at Nagrota Surian, leaving farmers high and dry.

Even the important field post of the subject matter specialist (SMS) has been lying vacant for the past six months. Farmers are now forced to buy seeds from Jawali by travelling 25 km.

Except Jawali and Kotla, the extension offices at Nagrota Surian, Harsar, Amlela, Bariyal, Guler, Trilokpur and Durana have been closed in Jawali subdivision for want of staff.

An official of the Agriculture Department said the vacancy status report was being submitted to the state authorities every month and the department had initiated process to fill vacant posts.
