Shimla MC offers land for ICMR lab

Tribune News Service

Shimla, March 20

The Municipal Corporation has offered land to set up state-of-art multi-purpose testing laboratory by the Indian Council for Medical Research(ICMR). The laboratory would be set up at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

This was stated by Mayor Sanjay Chauhan today in response to Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s remark that the state government had not given land for the project.

Chauhan said, “If the Indian Council for Medical Researchwant to set up the laboratory, we will provide land for it.”

He said that after repetitive jaundice outbreaks in the city since 2007, the SMC had set up a separate water and sewerage circle to provide potable water to the residents.“If this lab is set up, it will help the SMC monitor water quality and enable the State Pollution Control Board to check the “quality of sewage released from the treatment plants into the nearby ‘khuds’ after treatment,” the Mayor said.
