Govt supplies ration to Lahaul-Spiti

The state government has supplied all essential items to the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, which will remain snow-bound and disconnected from the rest of the country for the coming five months. 

A spokesperson for the state government on Tuesday said adequate quota of ration, LPG, petrol, kerosene oil, timber and other essential items had been provided to the district till June 2019.

He said the Department of Food and Civil Supplies had already supplied ration, fuel, LPG, kerosene oil etc as per the requirement of the people of Lahaul-Spiti, including Kaza. More stock would be sent as long as the roads were open.  In the wake of huge loss to crops and fruits due to untimely snowfall and incessant rain in the month of September, the government had decided to provide ration at BPL rates to all people of the valley for a period of six months. . 

He said the state government had procured apple from fruit growers of the valley through the HPMC at a rate of Rs 20 per kg as the apple crop was also damaged due to snow.
