Haphazardly parked trucks along highway a threat to motorists

Nurpur, September 14

Haphazardly parked vehicles along the Pathankot-Mandi national highway at Jassur have become a cause of concern for daily commuters.

Private buses, trucks and four-wheelers remain parked here all through the day. Vehicles passing through the highway are at a risk of colliding with the stationed ones, but the authorities seem to be waiting for a tragedy to happen to swing into action.

The National Highways wing of the Public Works Department had widened the stretch at Jassur over a year ago. It had also constructed a service lane for loading and unloading of goods from vehicles outside shops by spending over Rs 10 crore.

Jassur is a wholesale market and being situated on the Pathankot-Mandi highway, a service lane was a must. But the lane has turned into a parking lot for trucks, buses and other vehicles. This causes inconvenience to those using the lane as well as buyers.

The traffic police too have failed to chcek the illegal parking. Nurpur DSP Sahil Arora said he was not aware of the issue and would pay a visit to the area.
