The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet on Friday gave final burial to the much hyped Rs 2,000 crore Himalayan Ski Village project in Kullu by deciding to terminate the agreement signed in 2006.

The project which was supposed to be one of the biggest FDI project was conceived during the Congress regime but faced opposition not just from the BJP but also the local villagers who felt it would be against their religious and cultural beliefs.

The promoters of the project, Himalyan Ski Village Ltd, have sought permission to scale down the project to half in 2013 in view of the delay.

However, it was felt that in case of any modification in the earlier project, fresh bids would have to be invited.

The final decision was left to the Cabinet in 2014 but the previous Congress regime did not take a call on it.

Today’s Cabinet decision has finally put an end to the project which had merely been awaiting a final burial.
