Shimla, June 13

Prof Dr Rajeev Ahuja, a renowned world scientist (condensed matter theory group), University of Uppsala, Sweden, has termed hydrogen as a clean alternative energy source for emerging technological future.

“It is not a question of ‘if’ but it is a question of ‘when’ since the world is heading towards energy crisis”, he said while speaking at a seminar-cum-discussion on storage of energy for future social security at the Department of Physics at Himachal Pradesh University, here on Wednesday.

Prof Ahuja is a distinguished scientist in the world who is working on the storage of hydrogen materials using the density functional theory (DFT). Prof Ahuja presented his research in the presence of research scholars and faculty members. He is in the five-member committee for the Noble Prize selection process.

Prof Ahuja said as a result of rapid industrialisation in developing and developed countries, the energy resources of the world were depleting at a faster rate and environment was under threat due to excessive use of carbon emission from the conventional sources. The world is looking for a cleaner option of energies. For long, scientists have been working on hydrogen as a clean alternative. The main challenge in this direction is the storage of hydrogen. Scientific discussions were organised by Prof Mahavir Singh and coordinated by Dr Amarjeet Singh.
