Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the state government was committed to increasing the forest cover of the state for which active cooperation and support of each one was needed. He was presiding over a state-level Wildlife Week celebration function at Janjehli in Mandi district on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said the foundation stone of developmental projects worth Rs 55 crore were laid, which would open new vistas for residents in the area. The tourist culture centre to be constructed at Deemkataroo would give a boost to tourism in the state. He said the area had immense tourism potential and would be harnessed in a planed and sustainable way. He said Janjehli had been brought under the eco-tourism project to develop the area as a major tourist destination.

He said the state government would develop Chanshal in Shimla district, Bir-Billing in Kangra district and Janjehli in Mandi district for eco-tourism point of view. The bus service from Bhullar to Manali was flagged off by Thakur and this would help the tourists to visit both tourist destinations with ease. He said Rs 41 crores had been sanctioned for the Balichowki area for providing water supply scheme and a bus stand would also be constructed at Janjehli in the near future.

The Chief Minister said efforts would be made to construct a helipad at Janjehli soon to facilitate the high-end tourists. He said in future, efforts would also be made to link Janjehli with heli taxi service.

Earlier, the Chief Minister performed bhoomi pujan for the improvement and upgrading of Jughand road (stage-II) in Dhar-Jarol gram panchayat, improvement and upgrading of link road to Dhar (stage-II) in Dhar-Jarol gram panchayat, construction of Kuthah–Bakhrwal road (stage-I) in Tungadhar gram panchayat and improvement and upgrading of Kuthah-Tungadhar road (stage-II).

He laid foundation stones of bio-diversity park at Bullah. The Chief Minister launched a website of the state wildlife wing of the Forest Department, which contained detailed information of various birds and wildlife centuries. He also announced an HRTC sub depot for Janjehli.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by IPH (Irrigation and Public Health) Minister Mahender Singh Thakur, Forest Minister Govind Singh Thakur and other local BJP leaders.
